Each day this week
leading up to Senior Day on April 8 at 12 p.m., GoMason.com will
highlight a senior lacrosse player "Off the Field." In the fourth
installment, Emily Ellisen shares some of her fondest memories and
what
she will miss most about Mason. Ellisen, a native of Paoli, Pa.,
has become a paramount leader on the team and two-year captain.
What is your funniest memory with the team that you can
share?
This is a reoccurring funny memory,
but every year we have a hard run test we call the Gauntlet. It consists of a 7 minute 1-mile, 3:30 half
mile, 1:15 quarter mile, 2 200's and 5 100's.
The mile and half mile everyone can typically get done but the hardest
part of the test for most is the quarter mile in 1:15. And every year, since
freshman year Joy Oberlin, another senior, will get about half way around the
track and start yelling, almost animal-like for someone to help her/pull her
the rest of the way. Its just been a
joke since freshman year when she was crying for Chelsea to help her finish.
What is your major and what are your plans after graduation?
My major is Tourism and Events
Management. This summer I am doing an Internship with Hersha Hospitality
Management in Alexandria to complete my degree and I hope something will come
from that. I also would like to travel
maybe to Europe but definitely to California.
What will you miss most about Mason Lacrosse?
One of the things I will miss most
about Mason Lacrosse is competing. I am
a very competitive person and I will definitely miss the games and also just
being outside everyday playing the sport I love.
Do you hope to participate in the lacrosse world in some
capacity after graduation (coaching, playing, etc.)?
I can see myself coaching at the
high school level at some point. I
respect my high school coach, Joe Tornetta, so much and he prepared me so well
for Division I that I want to do that for other girls someday.
What will you miss about being a student-athlete in general?
I'm going to miss the Training
Room and all the amenities that come along with that - being able to ask any of the trainers about
something that hurts or going in and 'stimming' or ice bathing. I'm definitely going to miss that
convenience.
What will you miss the most about Mason itself?
I'm really going to miss
the people watching - people watching on
Campus in the JC [Johnson Center] is definitely one of a kind.
