Each day this week
leading up to Senior Day on April 8 at 12 p.m., GoMason.com will
highlight a senior lacrosse player "Off the Field." In the third installment, Mary Schwartz shares some of her fondest memories and
what
she will miss most about Mason. Schwartz, a native of Charlottesville, Va.,
has become a paramount leader on the team in her four years donning the Green and Gold.
What is your funniest memory with the team that you can share?
One of my funnies memories was this spring when Ashley Argyros ran
into the goal while I was re-defending her. I think the whole team laughed for
at least seven minutes out of practice. Or the time Katie Mascolo danced ALL
OUT by herself for a solid four minutes at the ALS walk in Washington D.C.
What
is your major and what are your plans after graduation?
My major is Integrative Studies with a
concentration in Elementary Education. I am undecided on plans after graduation, but hopefully some traveling is in my future.
What
will you miss most about Mason Lacrosse?
I will absolutely miss ruining
jokes that were once funny, overplaying songs that were once gems, getting to
the field house four hours before I have to because I love it there, coming up
with hilarious, outlandish, philosophical theories in my stretching line, and
having thirty girls who have my back in one way or another, among many other
things.
Do you
hope to participate in the lacrosse world in some capacity after
graduation (coaching, playing, etc.)?
I hope to play whenever and wherever
I can (definitely the alumni game) and maybe coach if I decide that's what
I want to do.
What will you miss most about being a student-athlete in general?
I will miss being part of a special community where
everyone understands each other because we are all working towards the same
goal while people on the outside looking in will never fully understand why we
do the things we do. I will also miss sitting on the green bench outside of the
training room watching ESPN and getting away with wearing grey on grey on grey
on grey in public.
What
will you miss the most about Mason itself?
I will miss the JC [Johnson Center] for the sole reason that is the
best "people watching" spot on campus and the fascinating people I have
encountered here at Mason.
