The George Mason golf team finished fifth at the 2012 CAA Men's Golf
Championship at the
Wilmington Country Club South Course. The green and gold were just two strokes behind third-place ODU and one stroke behind fourth place VCU. Mason junior Kevin Yerks shot a three-over par final round to earn third-place overall.
UNCW won the tournament and earned the NCAA automatic bid with a two-stroke win over second-place Georgia State. Delaware's Greg Matthias carded a 77 today (217 overall), but it was enough to earn medalist honors.
Yerks started the day six strokes off leader Mathias and finished three strokes out of first
after shooting three-over par today (220 total). He had one birdie today on hole #16.
Alec
Kormanec was one-under par through 16 holes, but bogeyed the last two holes to finish one-over today and 16th overall. He bounced back from an opening round 81 on Friday to score a 73 and 72 in the final two rounds.
Casey Thompson finished tied for 28th overall in the tournament. He carded a six-over par 77 in each of his three rounds. Today, he was six-over par after five holes, but played even par the remaining 13 holes.
Senior Josh Apple finished his four-year career at Mason with a 40th place finish.
