PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The George Mason track and field team sent four athletes to
compete at the Penn Relays, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania on
Thursday and Friday at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
Mason's top finish came from junior Mandissa Marshall, who
posted a height of 4.10m in the championship section of the pole vault. The
distance did not improve her season-best mark of 4.30m.
Also competing for the women was freshman Kelsey Reese, who
placed eighth in the championship heat of the javelin with a distance of
43.10m. The throw was an ECAC qualifying mark, but did not improve on her
season-best throw from two weeks ago at the Patriot Open Invitational.
For the men, seniors Lavell Handy and Dwight Webley took
part in two different sections of the long jump. Handy finished eighth in the
championship flight with a distance of 7.43m, while Webley placed fourth in the
college flight with a season-best distance of 7.26m, which also improved on his
IC4A qualifying mark.
The Patriots return to action next weekend as hosts of the
CAA Championships at George Mason Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
