For the third consecutive year, George Mason is set to host the CAA Rowing
Championship to take place on Sunday on its home course at Sandy Run
Regional Park. "We are looking forward
to racing this weekend," stated George Mason head coach Geoff Dillard.
"It has been an up and down season for us, but we have had a great week
of practice this week and are looking forward to seeing where we stand."
Championship action kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with the
Varsity 4 race, followed by the Second Varsity 8, while the Varsity 8 caps
the racing at 10:05 a.m. Defending 2011 champion Northeastern returns to the
Occoquan Reservoir and will compete against six CAA teams for the 2012
crown. Competing in Sunday's action will be Buffalo, Delaware, Drexel,
George Mason, Northeastern and Old Dominion and the CAA's newest member, Boston University.
Past Champions
2011 - Northeastern
2010 - Buffalo
2009 - Northeastern
"The CAA Championship is our most important race of the year and it is our hardest race of the year," commented Dillard. "We compete in an extremely competitive conference with Northeastern and Boston University being top 25 programs. We will need to focus on our race plan and keep the focus within the boat. If we do that, results will take care of themselves."
