WASHINGTON, D.C. -
The Patriots were defeated on Wednesday by George Washington in their third
matchup of the season by a score of 7-3.
The Colonials started the game strong in the bottom of the
first inning by scoring two runs off of three hits with RBI's coming from Tara
Fogarty and Sandi Moynihan. In the
bottom of the third, GW added four more runs off two home runs, each with a
runner on base. The first homer of the
inning came from center fielder Autumn Taylor who scored Victoria Valos with
her shot to center field. Moynihan then
followed her RBI single up the middle in the first inning with a home run to
left field that scored herself and Fogarty.
Mason was able to respond in the top of the third inning
when the Patriots were able to score three runs off two hits, while also taking
advantage of one George Washington error.
The inning began when junior Reagan Doiron drew a leadoff walk and
eventually scored when designated player Tiffany Webb reached base on an error
by the first baseman. The Patriots added
two more runs two batters later when catcher Emily Lafferty singled home Webb
and freshman Tori Rodriguez who singled to right field earlier in the inning.
Unfortunately, the Colonials added one more run in the
bottom of the sixth and Mason was unable to score again. The Patriots will now shift focus to yet
another weekend conference match up.
This week, Mason will travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to play a
three game set with the Drexel Dragons.
