FAIRFAX, Va. - The
Patriots fell by a score of 4-2 in the third game of their three game series
with Towson.
Mason received an outstanding pitching performance from
senior right hander Miranda Cranford, who gave up two unearned in the top of
the first inning and two unearned runs in the top of the seventh inning. On the day, Cranford pitched seven innings
giving up five hits, striking out four and allowing no earned runs.
Mason scored their two runs in the bottom of the fifth
inning when freshman second baseman Mary O'Connor began the rally by drawing a
walk. Leadoff hitter Tori Dudley doubled
later in the inning to put runners on second and third for freshman shortstop
Brooke Blankenship. Blankenship
delivered for the Patriots, hitting a clutch double down the left field line to
score two runners and tie the game.
Unfortunately for Mason, Towson delivered in the top half of
the seventh inning, scoring two runs after a costly error by Mason with two
outs and the Patriots were unable to respond in the bottom of the seventh.
The Patriots will play again on Wednesday at George Washington for their third and final game of the season against the Colonials.
