The
Mason men's tennis team lost 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2012
Virginia 529 CAA Championship today to #2 seed Georgia State at the
Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on the campus of Old Dominion University.
The Panthers (20-4) are ranked No. 55 nationally and will take on No. 42
UNCW in the semifinals on Saturday. Mason finishes the season 17-8.
The
Panthers earned their first point after taking the No. 2 and No. 3
doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Jimmy Davis and Taylor Sargent dropped their
match to Georgia State's team of Santana/Ortiz, 8-5. The Patriots Scott
Keaton and Joe Wiggins lost 8-3, to the Panthers team of Valente/Gutierrez.
The
third Georgia State point came at No. 2 singles as CAA Rookie of the
Year Matias Hatem didn't drop a match en route to a 6-0, 6-0 win against
sophomore Jimmy Davis. The match ended when junior Victor Valente,
named all-CAA first team, notched a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles
position against Mason's Jordan Dyke, who earned All-CAA thrid team
honors.
