The George Mason women's tennis team will take on JMU Thursday at the CAA Championships held at Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va.
The Patriots were 13-11 overall on the season, however they fell to JMU here in Fairfax in the teams' only meeting this season by a 7-0 decision. If Mason were to prevail against the Dukes, they would go on to face the No. 3 seed, Georgia State.
William and Mary will look to defend their 2011 title, as they come in at the No. 4 seed. The Tribe have won three of the last five titles. VCU holds the No. 1 overall seed followed by UNCW as the No. 2 seed.
Brooke Blackwell led the way for the Patriots this season, as she notched 13 singles wins, playing mostly out of the No. 3 and No. 4 positions respectively. Despite battling injury most of the season, Kiersten Pappas proved to be very effective when in the Patriots' lineup, posting an 8-2 singles record.
Underclassmen also held their own this season, as Kate Desiatnikova and Tori Zalewski each posted double-digit singles win totals on the year. Desiatnikova finished with a record of 11-10 overall, while Zalewski compiled a 10-9 campaign. Despite a plethora of injuries during the season, the Patriots have shown relience all year, and will look to continue that trend in the CAA Championships.
