The George Mason baseball team travels to Navy on Wednesday
for a midweek non-conference matchup. Mason is in the midst of an eight-game road trip, going a perfect 4-0 thus far.
The two teams met a season ago, with the Patriots earning a
13-6 win at Spuhler Field. Navy leads the all-time series, 16-13.
Mason has won five games in a row, a streak that
began against Georgia State on April 30. Since then, the Patriots defeated
Maryland last Tuesday and swept VCU over the weekend, it's first-ever three-game
sweep of the Rams since VCU joined the conference in 1996.
Senior Brig Tison continues to build on his strong senior
season, currently leading the Patriots in batting average (.384), on-base
percentage (.452), runs scored (32), hits (53, 1st CAA) and stolen
bases (11). Senior designated hitter Zack Helgeson has a team-best 29 runs
batted in, 12 doubles and nine home runs (1st CAA).
The Midshipmen are 14-18 overall and 2-6 in Patriot League
action. The team is coming off of a weekend conference series split with
Bucknell in Lewisburg. Navy defeated Bucknell in game one of a doubleheader on
Sunday, giving Head Coach Paul Kostacopoulos his 700th career victory.
Junior Greg Dupell paces the Navy offense, batting .265 with
team-best marks in runs scored (20), hits (31) and doubles (9). Sophomore
Chance Jones has a team-high 24 RBI's, and senior Alex Azor is hitting a
team-best .361.
