FAIRFAX, Va. - In
the first day of the Mason Invitational, the Patriots fell to Hartford by a
score of 5-4 in 9 innings.
Mason jumped off to an early start in the game by scoring
two runs in the first inning off a 2 RBI single by senior first baseman Katie Rynex.
The Patriots then scored another two runs off a double to
left centerfield gap by senior shortstop Rachael Davies. However, Hartford fought back in the bottom
half of the inning by scoring two runs of their own and then scoring another
two in the fourth inning to tie the game.
The teams battled through the seventh inning to a 4-4 tie
before Hartford won on a walk off double in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Patriots will continue play in the Mason Invitational on
Saturday with games against Hartford at 1:15pm and against Cornell at 3:30pm.
