RICHMOND, Va. - Junior Mandissa Marshall and sophomore Amanda
Denger collected CAA Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors, as announced
by the conference office on Tuesday.
For the second-consecutive week Marshall was tabbed as the female Field
Athlete of the Week, while Denger was named the female Track Athlete of the
Week. On the men's side, William and Mary's Josh Hardin was named the Track
athlete of the Week and UNCW's Brad Hollowell was recognized as the Field
Athlete of the Week.
At the W&L/VMI Track Carnival over the weekend, Marshall
shattered her school record set last week with a vault of 4.30m. In addition to
being a school record, her height was also a meet record and is currently the best
mark in the country.
Denger set a meet record and personal best with 4,674 points in
the heptathlon, besting the previous meet mark of 3,728 points at the
W&L/VMI Track Carnival. Denger won six of the seven events comprising the
heptathlon, including the 200m dash (25.33), 800m run (2:28.30), 100m hurdles
(15.80), long jump (4.96m), shot put (11.09m) and javelin (33.79m). The only
event she did not win was the high jump, where she finished in second place
(1.54m). Her point total is the sixth-best nationally.
The track & field team returns to action this weekend,
competing at the Raleigh Relays hosted by N.C. State.
