RICHMOND, Va. - George Mason senior designated hitter Zack
Helgeson was named the CAA Baseball Co-Player of the Week, as announced by the
conference office on Monday.
Helgeson collected his first weekly conference recognition of the
season, sharing Player of the Week honors with UNCW senior outfielder Tyler
Molinaro. Northeastern's Kevin Ferguson and Towson's Michael Trionfo were named
Co-Pitchers of the Week, and UNCW pitcher Jordan Ramsey collected Rookie of the
Week accolades.
In a 4-1 week for the Patriots, Helgeson batted .444 (8-18) with
six doubles, a home run, four RBI's and four runs scored.
Against Georgetown on Tuesday,
Helgeson went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI's as the Patriots won,
12-8. He followed that performance with his conference-leading ninth home run
of the season while going 2-for-4 at the plate in a 5-4 win over George Washington
on Wednesday.
In weekend conference play against William
and Mary, Helgeson hit two doubles in each of the first two games of the series
while also scoring one run. In game one of the Friday doubleheader he went
2-for-3, and then hit 2-for-4 in the nightcap.
This season, Helgeson leads the
conference in slugging percentage (.747) and home runs (9) while ranking second
in total bases (65), third in RBI's (23) and fourth in doubles (11).
The Patriots return to action on Wednesday, traveling to Rider
University for a 3:00 pm affair.
