LEXINGTON, Va. - Junior Mandissa Marshall broke her own school record in the pole vault and three athletes set
three meet records as the Mason track and field team competed in the
Washington and Lee/VMI Track Carnival over the weekend in Lexington, Va.
Junior Mandissa Marshall continued her hot start to the
outdoor season, posting a height of 4.30m (14'-1 ¼") in the pole vault,
shattering the previous school record she set last week (4.12m) in addition to
setting a meet record.
Competing in the heptathlon, sophomore Amanda Denger set a
meet record and personal best with 4,674 points, besting the previous meet mark
of 3,728 points. Denger won six of the seven events comprising the heptathlon,
including the 200m dash (25.33), 800m run (2:28.30), 100m hurdles (15.80), long
jump (4.96m), shot put (11.09m) and javelin (33.79m). The only event she did
not win was the high jump, where she finished in second place (1.54m).
The final meet record was recorded by junior Gustavo
Osorio, who finished third in the decathlon but bested the previous meet record
in the event with 6,121 points.
Also posting a top finish for the Patriots was freshman Paul
Akyen, who won the high jump with a height of 1.95m.
Mason returns to action next weekend, competing in the
Raleigh Relays on the campus of N.C. State.
