RICHMOND, Va. - George Mason track & field junior Mandissa
Marshall and senior Nick Vaughn earned CAA Track Athlete of the Week accolades
as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Competing in their first outdoor meet of the season, both Marshall
and Vaughn had impressive showings at the Mason Spring Opener last Saturday.
Marshall was tabbed as the Women's Field Athlete of the Week, while Vaughn
collected Men's Track Co-Athlete of the Week honors.
Georgia State's Charlesha Lightbourne was named the Women's Track
Athlete of the Week, while Northeastern's Eric Jenkins shared men's track
honors with Vaughn and Patrick Jablonski from Northeastern was named the Men's
Field Athlete of the week.
Marshall, a native of Mountain Top, Pa., set a school record in
the pole vault with a height of 4.12m (13-6¼), besting her previous record
height of 13-1½ set a season ago. She currently has the fourth-best mark in the
nation and qualified for the ECAC Outdoor Championships.
Hailing from Vienna, Va., Vaughn finished the meet with two IC4A
qualifying marks while winning both events. He ran a time of 47.36 in the 400m
dash and 21.70 in the 200m dash.
The track & field team returns to action this weekend, taking
part in both the William & Mary Tribe Open and W&L/VMI Track Carnival.
