Tournament time has arrived for the wrestling team as they
prepare to compete in the CAA Championships on Saturday in Binghamton, New
York. While Mason's team success has not
been great in conference, the Patriots have several individual wrestlers who
have a chance to make an impact in the tournament and qualify for Nationals on
March 15th - 17th in St. Louis, Missouri.
Senior 197 pounder Mendbagana Tovuujav has compiled a 17-3
overall record in competition this year and is a perfect 6-0 against CAA
competition. Freshman Vincent Rodriguez
will also look to make an impact this weekend in his first CAA Championship. The 125-pounder, who is 16-8 overall and 4-3
against conference opponents, has been wrestling as well as almost anyone on
the team in the last half of the season.
Last season, 157-pounder Jaaziah Bethea led the group in the
tournament by placing 4th overall in his weight class. The junior will look to improve this year on
his impressive performance last season.
The event will be hosted by Binghamton University and all
seven CAA wrestling teams will compete.
The tournament will last all day on Saturday and live stats will be
available through Binghamton University.
