HAMPTON, Va - The
Patriots lossed two tough games in a doubleheader against Hampton University on
Wednesday, losing the first game by a score of 10-5 and the second in a hard
fought 3-2 battle.
In the first game, Mason was led by senior right fielder
Tori Dudley, who went three for four with two doubles, a run scored and a
RBI. After pitching brilliantly in her
last three outings, freshman Tiffany Harvell struggled to find consistency
against Hampton, giving up five runs in the first inning before settling
in.
In the second game, Mason jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the
top of the first inning when junior Samantha Barney singled in Dudley. The game remained 1-0 until Hampton responded
back with one run in the third and then another run in the fifth. The Patriots were able to tie the game in the
sixth when Dudley scored her second run of the game off an RBI groundout to
shortstop off the bat of first baseman Reagan Doiron. However, Hampton was able to win the game in
the bottom of the seventh when a runner advanced to third on a wild pitch and
was then batted in off a routine groundball out to third base.
Mason will look to shake off two tough midweek doubleheader
losses in the Cherry Blossom Classic this weekend. This will be the third and final tournament
that Mason hosts this weekend as they will then shift their attention to the
beginning of conference play next week.
