Senior Mendbagana Tovuujav and freshman Vincent Rodriguez
are set to compete in the NCAA Division I Wrestling National Championships in
St. Louis, Missouri on Thursday.
Tovuujav, who will wrestle at 197 pounds, has compiled a
20-3 overall record this season and will look to end his Mason career with an
impressive showing at Nationals. Two
weeks ago, Tovuujav won the CAA Tournament at 197 pounds after coming in as the
#1 seed for his weight class. The senior
is set to wrestle the three seed Matthew Wilps from Pittsburgh in the first
round on Thursday.
Rodriguez, who will wrestle at 125 pounds, has a record of
18-9 this season and is prepared to finish off his freshman season by making a
run in Nationals. In his last
competition, Rodriguez finished second in the CAA Tournament and put himself in
position to earn an at large bid for Nationals.
The freshman will wrestle Trent Sprenkle from North Dakota State
University in the first round of the tournament on Thursday.
