The George Mason men's tennis team lost their first match at Springfest 6-1 to Augusta State held in Hilton Head, S.C. The Jaguars, ranked 13th nationally by ITA in Division II, took the doubles point and five of the singles matches against Mason.
The Patriots senior Jorge Osuna scored Mason's point with a 6-2, 6-3 win against the Jaguars Victor Cabellos at No. 3 singles. Mason won the top doulbes match, but August State won the remaining two for the doubles point. The top team of Jordan Dyke and Jimmy Davis improved to 7-3 with a 8-6 win against the Jaguars Henrique Boturao and Bernardo Fernandez. At No. 2 singles, Taylor Sargent and Chris Borden lost a tightly contested match, 9-8(5).
The Patriots will play Southern Illinois on Tuesday.
