FAIRFAX, Va. - Softball
began the second day of the Mason Invitational by beating Hartford 9-0 and Cornell
2-0.
Freshman pitcher Casey Herring was dominant in the first
game, pitching five innings scoreless innings and scattering three hits. Mason scored one run in the first inning and
then exploded for six big runs in the bottom of the second. Freshman Brooke Blankenship led the team
offensively in the first game, going two for four with four RBI's and two runs
scored. Blankenship also ended the game with
a walk off two run homer in the bottom of the fifth to put the Patriots up by 9
runs.
In the second game, Mason received brilliant pitching from
freshman Tiffany Harvell, who won her first game in her Mason career. The Patriots were led offensively by catcher
Emily Lafferty who went 1-2 at the plate and scored a run.
Mason will be back in action on the final day of the Mason
Invitational on Sunday at 11:15am against Hartford and against Cornell at
1:30pm for the final game of the tournament.
