Johns Hopkins Uses Strong Second Half to Defeat Lacrosse, 19-6

FAIRFAX, Va. - Ualbany used a strong second half to defeat George Mason 12-5 Saturday afternoon at George Mason Stadium. The Patriots trailed 6-3 at the half, but the Great Danes outscored Mason 6-2 in the second period to capture the win.

Mason (1-5) was led offensively by Emily Ellisen with two goals, while Rachel Obregon, Allie Hilderbrandt and Caitlin Formato each added one for the Patriots. Obregon finished the game with an assist as Mary Schwartz recorded an assist as well. Five different Patriots recorded a caused turnover and four each picked up two ground balls. Ellisen nearly matched her career-high with six draw controls. Brittany Pastrana played the full game in cage, recording eight saves.

For the Great Danes (4-1), Rachael Burek paced the offense with five goals, while Jess Antelmi recorded two goals and five assists. Ariana Parker added three goals for UAlbany as Maureen Keggins and Amanda Pollock capped the scoring each with a goal. Goalkeeper Anna Berman picked up the win, recorded four saves and three ground balls.

UAlbany opened the scoring with Burek's first goal of the afternoon before Formato tied the score less than a minute later off an Obregon feed at the 26:13 mark. The Great Danes used a 3-0 run to take a 4-1 advantage before Mason responded with two unanswered goals from Hilderbrandt and Obregon to cut the score to 4-3 with 15:33 in the first.

A 4-0 UAlbany run that spread into the opening of the second half put the visiting squad up 8-3 before Ellisen snapped the run on an unassisted shot at the 22:38 mark. Parker completed an Antelmi feed at 19:20 before Ellisen completed Mason's scoring with her ninth goal of the season at the 11:26 mark for a 9-5 score. The Great Danes posted three unanswered goals to close the game and seal the 12-5 victory.

UAlbany won the edge in shots (26-15), ground balls (15-12) and draw controls (10-9).

Mason hits the road for the first time this season, opening a four-game road swing at Liberty on March 14 at 3 p.m.
