After a tough loss to Bucknell last Friday, Mason wrestling
will be back on the mat this Saturday night against Central Michigan
University. The Patriots will play host
to a Chippewas team that has three nationally ranked wrestlers in their
starting lineup.
"I am excited to have Central Michigan in town this weekend,"
said Head Coach Joe Russell. "They consistently put out All-Americans and
good dual meet teams. It should be fun for our fans to see us compete
against an elite team."
Despite having to deal with a plethora of injuries, as well
as having several freshmen wrestle above their weight class, the Patriots have
continued to focus on daily improvements and preparation for the conference and
national tournaments at the end of the year.
Central Michigan is the first of several teams down the stretch of this
season that will provide Mason with an opportunity to beat highly ranked
wrestlers.
"If our guys give great effort during their individual bouts and can sneak out
a win, it will certainly be noticed in the college wrestling world," reflected
Russell. "Wins against teams of this caliber will help get guys closer to
qualifying for the NCAA tournament."
The dual is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm in the Recreation and Athletic Complex. The match will also be availble on the Patriot Vision video feed on the front page of GoMason.com.
