FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason lacrosse team sliced a
six-goal halftime deficit to three goals to open the second half, but George
Washington held the Patriots scoreless the remainder of the game to grab an
11-6 decision Wednesday afternoon. Allie Hilderbrandt paced Mason with three goals
on the afternoon, while Kiersten Jauschnegg recorded five caused turnovers.
With the loss, Mason dipped to 1-3 on the season, while the
Colonials improved to 3-1.
Mason saw offensive outputs from three different Patriots
led by Hilderbrandt's three. Mary Schwartz posted two goals as Caitlin Formato
capped Mason's scoring with one. Hilderbrandt finished the game with two
assists and one draw control. Jauschnegg finished with five caused turnovers,
while Brittany Pastrana picked up three playing the full game in cage and
recorded eight saves.
For the Colonials, Megan Seidman led the offense with four
goals as both Rachel Mia and Casey Disharoon posted two apiece. Sarah Phillips
and Lindsay DiAntonio rounded out the scoring for GW, each with a goal. Jess
Hicks picked up the win for George Washington playing the full game in cage,
recording seven saves.
The non-conference foes each posted three goals within the
first nine minutes as the teams stood tied at 3-3 following two goals from
Hilderbrandt from the free position. GW held Mason scoreless the remainder of
the half while scoring six goals to take a 9-3 lead at the break.
Mason came out of the break scoring two quick goals from
Hilderbrandt and the first from Schwartz. The senior capped a 3-0 Patriot run finishing
a Hilderbrandt assist at 22:14, slicing the score to 9-6. Seidman, however,
would score the final two goals of the contest as GW sealed the 11-6 win,
marking its first victory over Mason in program history.
Mason returns to play welcoming Boston
University for a 12 p.m. matchup on Saturday, March 3.
