The George Mason women's tennis team traveled Mary
Washington on Sunday, coming away with a 7-2 victory. Mary Washington was ranked 24th in the nation at Division III going into the match.
The Patriots played in the Division III format which is a
nine point system where each individual doubles match counts as a point in addition to the six singles matches. In Division I, the format is the team who wins two of three doubles matches earns one point towards the team's total for the match.
With the win, the Patriots have won five straight matches, and conclude a grueling part of their schedule, playing three matches in as many days on the weekend. Despite injuries and discipline to team members, head coach Stephen Curtis and the Lady Patriots have persevered.
"I am very proud of our players. This was a
very tough part of the schedule especially with some suspensions and an
injury riddled team," he said. "They have weathered the storm and showed how tough
they are as a team."
Mason improves to 8-3 overall on the season. The Patriots have off next weekend. Mason returns to action March 3 when they travel to Jersey City, N.J., to take on St. Peter's followed by a CAA clash with Hofstra on March 4.
