The Mason men's tennis team with a sound 6-1 defeat of Morgan State Saturday at Montclair Country Club improves its opening season winning streak to five matches.
Mason won the top two doubles matches to take the first point. The Patriots top team of Jimmy Davis and Jordan Dyke won their fifth straight doubles match with an 8-4 win against the Bears team of Eric Ward and Duwane Thomas. Taylor Sargent and Chris Borden won their match at NO. 2 doubles against Aaron Benjamin and Jannick Tash, 8-1.
On the singles court, Mason won five out of six matches, only losing singles No. 3. Three matches were determined by tie-breakers. At No. 1 singles, Dyke lost the first set 3-6 before winning the second set 6-3 and the tie-breaker 10-4. At No. 4 Mason's Taylor Sargent lost the second set 6-7(4) before taking the tie-breaker 14-12. Patrick Mulquin lost the first set in No. 6 singles before defeating Djordje Lubinkovic 4-6, 6-3(11-9).
The Patriots will look to continue their hot streak against Navy on Saturday at Noon.
