SPARTANBURG, S.C.
- The Patriots dropped two games on Saturday in the University of South
Carolina Upstate Tournament, losing to Georgetown by a score of 8-0 and USCU,
9-3.
In the first game, Mason fell victim to a walk off grand slam
in the bottom of the fifth inning. The
Patriots gave up two runs early in the first inning and then played to a
scoreless tie until the fifth. Despite
being held scoreless in the game, freshman Brooke Blankenship continued to
impress with another two hit performance.
In the second game, Mason lost a tough battle to USCU. The Patriots were hurt by a lack of run
production, scoring three runs but none in any other inning. Freshman pitcher Casey Herring got the start
and pitched four innings, giving up seven runs, while striking out two and
walking five. Senior shortstop Rachael Davies was the team leader offensively, driving in two runs and going one for
two at the plate.
The Patriots will finish the USCU Tournament on Sunday morning
when they play Youngstown State at 9:30am.
