CONWAY, S.C. - The
Patriots fell twice in their second doubleheader in as many days at the Kickin'
Chicken Classic on Saturday. In the
first game, Mason lost to Coastal Carolina, 4-3, after a seventh inning
comeback attempt fell just short.
Georgia Southern controlled the second game of Mason's doubleheader and eventually
earned a 10-1 victory over the Patriots.
Mason was led in their first game by shortstop Rachael Davies,
who singled in the second inning and double to left in the fourth.
After both teams scored two runs in the second inning,
Coastal Carolina was able to notch a run in both the third and sixth innings of
the game. The Patriots were not able to
score again until the top of the seventh when left fielder Megan Blank doubled
to centerfield and eventually scored off a single by senior Alyssa See.
Senior Miranda Cranford picked up the loss for Mason after
pitching 5.1 innings and giving up three earned runs.
In the second game of the day, Mason was beaten Georgia
Southern after giving up three runs in the fourth and seventh innings. The Patriots played Georgia Southern close in
the first three innings and were given a huge lift by freshman Brooke Blankenship's solo home run in the bottom of the third.
Mason was also led offensively with two singles apiece from senior
Tori Dudley and junior first baseman Katie Rynex.
The Patriots will have their final game of the tournament on
Sunday when they play George Washington at 10am.
