FAIRFAX, Va. - Senior Richard Lavorato had a strong performance for the Patriots as George Mason wrestling fell to Navy 33-4 Saturday at home. With the loss Mason falls to 1-4 in the season and Navy advances to 1-0.
Due to random draw the match began with the 133 weight class.
Navy took an early 3-0 lead with Colton Rasche's 8-2 decision win over Zach Isenhour. The Midshipmen stretched their lead to 16-0 at halftime with wins in the 141, 149, 157 and 165 weight classes.
After halftime, Navy put six more points on the board when Matthew Miller pinned Ryan Hembury five minutes and forty seconds into his match in the 174 weight class.
Freshman Matt Meadows had a strong performance at 197 but with a 2:20 riding time advantage Oscar Huntley would win the match by a 5-4 decision.
In the final match of the night, Lavorato scored Mason's only points of the match with a 10-2 major decision win over Jericho Uremenita in the 125 weight class.
The Midshipmen would win the match with a final score of 33-4.
Mason returns to the mat when they take on Drexel in Madison Square Garden on December 16th.
