Va. - This week's Out of the Pool features freshman
Melissa Davis, a native of Mechanicsville, Va. where she attended Lee-Davis
High School. Davis competed in the AT&T Winter National Championships this
past weekend in Austin, Texas, where she finished 33rd in the 200
Backstroke with a time of 2:01.13.

Why
did you choose George Mason University?
Davis:
I
loved the team and I felt the most comfortable here.
GoMason.com:
Did
you always know you wanted to swim in college?
Davis:
I
never expected to swim in college. It
wasn't until the winter of my senior year that I started to seriously consider
swimming at the colligate level.
GoMason.com:
What
is your favorite swimming event, and why?
Davis: I love the 200 Backstroke. This event is just long enough for me to get
up to speed and short enough to keep my sanity.

Do
you have any pre-meet rituals that you have to do before you swim?
Davis:
I
actually dance before I swim.

What
are your goals for this season?
Davis:
I
want to break two minutes in the 200 backstroke and place well at conference.

What
was your favorite swimming moment from the 2012 London Olympics?
Davis:
Although
it was fun watching Missy Franklin win the backstroke events, I absolutely
loved watching Katie LeDecky win the 800 freestyle!
GoMason.com: What is your
biggest pet peeve?
Davis: I hate when
people are unreasonable.
GoMason.com: What would you
like to do after college?
Davis: I would love to
get a job that would let me redesign renewable energy technology such as solar
panels or wind turbines.
GoMason.com: If you could
visit any place in the world, where would you go?
Davis: I would love to
go to Rome and see all of the ruins.
GoMason.com: What is
something that most people don't know about you?
Davis: I like to listen
to Disney songs. My favorite song is
"I'll Make a Man out of You" from Mulan.
GoMason.com: From a swimming
stand point, were you team Phelps or Lochte during the Olympics?
Davis: Team Phelps!!
