FAIRFAX, Va. - This Out of the Pool features David Kiss a senior on the men's swimming and diving team and a native of Alexandria, Va., where he attended Thomas A. Edison High School. Kiss was the 2012 CAA Champion last year in the 200 Butterfly where he set a meet record of 1:46.89 in the prelims. This past weekend at the CAA POD meet, Kiss finished second, just .62 milliseconds behind the leader, in the 200 Freestyle (1:42.92), second in the 200 Butterfly (1:53.62) and third in the 200 IM (1:56.65).

GoMason.com: Why did you choose George Mason University?

Kiss: George Mason has a great program and team, and it was also close to home.

GoMason.com: How did you get into swimming?

Kiss: I started swimming when I was four years old. My dad used to be a swimmer as well.

GoMason.com: Did you always know you wanted to swim in college?

Kiss: I first thought about swimming in college during my junior year of high school.

GoMason.com: What is your favorite swimming event, and why?

Kiss: The 200 Fly because it's a very exhausting event and you have to give it everything you have to finish.

GoMason.com: Do you have any pre-meet rituals that you have to do before you swim?

Kiss: Stand up on the block and take a deep breath.

GoMason.com: Who would you say you look up to the most?

Kiss: My mother.

GoMason.com: What are your goals for this season?

Kiss: Best times at the conference championships and to make it to the NCAAs.

GoMason.com: What was your favorite swimming moment from the 2012 London Olympics?

Kiss: Daniel Gyurta winning the 200 breaststroke with a new world record.

GoMason.com: If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you take with you?

Kiss: Water, lighter, and a blanket.

GoMason.com: What would you like to do after college?

Kiss: Work for the government.

GoMason.com: If you could visit any place in the world, where would you go?

Kiss: I would visit my family in Hungary.

GoMason.com: What is something that most people don't know about you?

Kiss: I was born and raised in Hungary for 15 years and English is my third language.

GoMason.com: From a swimming stand point, were you team Phelps or Lochte during the Olympics?

Kiss: I just wanted to see great races between the two of them but if I had to pick, I would pick team Phelps.
