FAIRFAX, Va. - For the third consecutive year, the George Mason
Varsity 4 captured first place at the Head of the Occoquan Saturday afternoon.
Mason raced nine boats on Saturday and recorded five top 10 finishes.
Closing out the day of racing, the Varsity 4 captured
first-place with a time of 19:16.13, edging out Duquesne, U.S. Military Academy
and Saint Joseph's, which rounded out the top five. Racing four boats in the
event, Mason also grabbed an eighth-place finish with a time of 20:10.36. The Patriots'
final two boats competing in the Varsity 4 finished in 16th
(20:45.22) and 20th (21:11.02) place, respectively.
Opening the morning for the Patriots were three boats in the
Varsity 8. The Patriots earned another top-10 finish taking seventh with a time
of 17:48.99. Mason also captured a 20th-place finish (18:54.98) and
25th-place finish (19:41.31).
The Novice 8 took home two top-10 showings as the Patriots finished
in eighth and ninth place. The first boat crossed in 20:54.65 for eighth place,
while the Patriots also recorded a ninth-place finish with a time of 21:06.42.
