BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The George Mason wrestling team fell Saturday in their season opener against No. 16 Virginia (41-3) and Gardner-Webb (24-12). The duals were held at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C.
In the Virginia match, freshman Sahid Kargo, wrestling at the 141 weight class, won his match against David Wesley by a 7-3 decision to put the Patriots on the board.
For the Gardner-Webb dual, Ryan Hembury (174), Matt Meadows (197) and Jake Kettler (Hwt) won each of their respective matches. Hembury pinned his opponent two minutes and twenty-one seconds into his match. Meadows and Kettler won their matches by a 3-0 and 3-2 decision, respectively.
The Patriots return to the mat tomorrow to take on the mountaineers of Appalachian State in Boone, N.C. at 1:00 p.m.
