OCCOQUAN, Va. - The George Mason rowing team had four boats post top-five finishes at the Occoquan Chase Sunday in the first race of the season for the Patriots. Mason raced seven boats in the event, which was held at Sandy Run Regional Park.

Mason opened racing competing in the Open 8+ with three boats, two finishing in the top-five. Crossing the finish line in 18:05.73, Mason captured a second-place finish behind UNC as the Patriots' second 8 boat took fifth-place in 19:20.73. The Patriots also took home a 13^th place showing with a time of 20:32.58.

Racing three boats in the Open 4+, Mason took home second, ninth and 22^nd place finishes. Mason's second-place finish recorded a time of 20:02.69, just behind first-place TBC Racing with a time of 20:02.42. With a time of 21:21.02, Mason also took home a ninth-place finish behind Capital Rowing Club. The Patriot's final boat in the Open 4+ took 22^nd with a time of 24:33.92.

Mason raced one boat in the Novice 4+ which also finished second in 22:07.45 behind first-place Eastern Michigan (22:04:34).
