As part of a fall community service event, the George Mason
men's volleyball team joined together with the Fairfax Volleyball Club to host
an adult clinic at the Virginia Volleyball Center.
"It is with pleasure that we ran the 2012 Fairfax Volleyball
Club's Adult All-Skills Clinic," said men's volleyball coach Fred Chao. "This
marks the third year that we have been part of it and we are grateful for the
relationships we build from the experience. It is a great way to show my
current players how they are in a position to give back to a community that
appreciates and supports our efforts. The players really enjoy the experience,
as do the participants."
During the event, the Patriots taught the attendees, who
ranged in ages from 20-75, different techniques in the game of volleyball. The
Fairfax Volleyball Club is one of the largest adult volleyball clubs in the
country.
"Fairfax Volleyball Club's mission is to promote volleyball
in Northern Virginia," commented Missy Sutton, the Director of Coed League. "We
offer adult indoor recreational leagues and outdoor doubles tournaments and, by
partnering with the George Mason men's volleyball program, we are also able to
offer an annual skills clinic. Having worked with the Mason men's volleyball
team and coaches for several years now, we know they are just as passionate
about volleyball and giving back to the community as Fairfax Volleyball Club
and its members. It's a win-win partnership and we look forward to working
together to continue promoting the sport."
The Patriots and Fairfax Volleyball Club have hosted several
clinics and fundraisers over the past few years together in an effort to teach
the game of volleyball and grow awareness to the sport around Fairfax.
