FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason men's track and field team
recorded five IC4A qualifying times as both the men's and women's T&F teams
took part in the Patriots Games Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the
Fieldhouse.
Three IC4A qualifying times were also event winners for the
men, as senior Nick Vaughn won the 500m (1:04.46), junior George Empty claimed
the 800m (1:53.31) and freshman Anthony Williams won the 60m hurdles (8.23).
Other qualifying times including Rachaunn Ruffin recording a time of 6.92 in
the 60m en route to a second-place finish and junior Alex Zyryanov finishing
with a time of 4:14.79 while finishing second in the one mile run.
The men's team also had two additional event winners, as
junior Phillip Blankenship won the 3000 (8:39.33) and junior Travaughn
Baker-Johnson claimed the long jump with a distance of 6.84m.
Other top finishes for the men included junior Wil
McReynolds taking third in the 1000m (2:32.92), senior Andrew McGreal placing
third in the 1 mile run (4:16.02) and sophomore Kirk Nguyen finishing third in
the weight throw (15.72).
On the women's side, senior Monique McKenzie was Mason's top
finisher, winning the 800m in a time of 2:15.93. Freshman Jasmine Robinson
finished second in the 60m (7.76), and the 4x400 relay of juniors Crystalynne
Clark, Kristin Bethel, TaNay Chandler and Robinson recorded a second-place
finish with a time of 3:57.00.
Additional top-five finishes included sophomore Victoria
Samyn taking the fifth spot in the 1 mile run (5:18.56) and freshman Catherine
Pulley finishing fifth in the 3000m (10:57.10).
The team returns to action next weekend as they travel to
New York City to take part in the Armory Collegiate Invitational.
