The Mason women's tennis team opened the spring semester with a home match against conference foe UNCW held indoors at Montclair Country Club in Montclair, Va. The experienced Seahawks were too much for the Patriots as they defeated Mason 7-0.
The
Patriots were without the services of a few of their experienced players forcing head coach Steve Curtis to start three freshmen in singles action and one in doubles: Liza Davis, Sara Novakovic,
Victoria Zalewski and Amber Peters. "It's a rare situation when four
freshmen start for us," commented Curtis. "The
circumstances required a move down the ladder and the freshmen got some
valuable experience."
Junior Alison Wingo played the Seahawks Christine Lee at the top singles position, but Lee took the match 6-3, 6-2. Freshman Liza Davis and Amber Peters both won four games each in their matches, falling 6-2, 6-2.
The Patriots next play on February 4th against Coppin State at Montclair Country Club.
