WEST POINT, N.Y. - Mason
swimming and diving took on Army, American and Old Dominion in a tri-meet
hosted by the Naval Academy on Saturday.
The women finished 1-1-1 beating American 209-81, losing to ODU 180-120
and equaling Army at 150 apiece.
The men finished the meet 1-2 with a 198-101 victory over American and
losses to ODU (159.50 - 138.50) and Army (196-104).
The women were led by senior swimmer Ashley Danner's three
individual victories. Danner won
the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:03.42, the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:19.28 and
the 400-yard individual medley in 4:22.52. Danner also swam the second leg of Mason's 200-yard medley
relay team that took first place with a time of 1:47.05. Sophomore Paige Impink also swam on the
200-yard IM relay team and followed that team victory with an individual
victory in the 100-yard backstroke (58.82).
Senior standout Preston Wolter paced the men with three
individual 1st place finishes.
Wolter won the 1650-yard freestyle in 16:08.17, the 500-yard freestyle
in 4:40.77 and the 400-yard individual medley in 4:05.32. Star senior diver Derrick Butts also
had a good day with his 1-meter dive victory and a score of 322.85. Butts finished second in the 3-meter
dive with a score of 321.
Mason will be in the pool again on Saturday, January 28th
as they host George Washington University.
