TOWSON, Md. - After
a winter break tournament in Key Largo, Florida on December 1st, the
Patriots returned to the pool last Saturday against
conference rival Towson University.
The women fell by a score of 212.50 - 87.50, while the men came away with a dominating victory and a final score 205-93.
The women were led senior swimmer Ashley Danner who took
part in all four of the team victories on the day. Danner began the day by swimming the second leg of 200-yard
medley relay. Danner also won the
100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.83, which set a new pool record. She later won the 50-yard freestyle
with a time of 24.04 and the 200-yard breaststroke with a time 2:19.29, another
pool record.
The men were able to take first place in 15 of the 16 male
events on the day and were led by many of the familiar names that have been
large contributors all season.
Senior diver Derrick Butts took home wins in the 1-meter and 3-meter
dives with scores of 346.58 and 331.28 respectively. Six men were able to take home first place in at least one
event over the weekend, senior Preston Wolter and junior David Kiss each took
home three individual wins a piece and were also both a part of the 200-yard
freestyle relay team that took home first place with a time 1:28.66.
Mason will be back in the pool next Saturday, January 21st when they face
off against Army, American and conference foe Old Dominion in West Point, New
York.
