Three Patriots went undefeated on the first day of the Mason Invitational, a three-team round robin tournament played at the Mason Tennis Courts today. Overall, the Patriots finished with a 14-2 record in singles and 3-1 record in doubles in matches against Loyola and Mount St. Mary's.
Kevin McMillen, Scott Keaton, and Steve Hyre each went 3-0 on the day, winning their two singles matches and one doubles match. McMillen and Hyre teammed up to defeat Mount St. Mary's team of Zabetakis/McGinley, 8-5. McMillen defeated Loyola's Ryan Fitzgerald, 6-0, 6-1 and the Mount's Harrison Kunkel 6-1, 4-6 (10-6). Hyre defeated Loyola's Tom Hamm and Mt. St. Mary's Jastin Mostowitt. Keaton was paired with Jimmy Davis to defeat Loyola's team, 8-3. Keaton didn't have much trouble in singles as he defeated Loyola's Patrick McGinley, 6-2, 6-2 and Mount St. Mary's Taylor Place, 6-1, 6-2.
The tournament will resume tomorrow at 10 am.
