The George Mason Golf Team will be participating in the 5th Annual Patriot Golf Day on Monday, September 5 at the 1757 Golf Club in Ashburn from 9am to 6pm. The team will be collecting donations and administering golf related events as part of a nationwide campaign to raise money to benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation.
The Patriot Golf Day® will take place at thousands of golf courses across the Nation during Labor Day Weekend. Golfers nationwide are asked to donate a minimum of $1 to benefit the Folds of Honor Foundation® to provide post-secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving our great nation. Patriot Golf Day has raised more than $8 million dollars in the past four years and the Folds of Honor Foundation has awarded more than 2,100 scholarships.
PGA Professional Dan Rooney, an F-16 fighter pilot in the Oklahoma Air National Guard, is the founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation. Major Rooney, call sign Noonan, has served three tours in Iraq. 'We have lost so many soldiers who have given the ultimate sacrifice. America can come together in the spirit of golf and have a dramatic impact. We have an opportunity to make a difference for the families who have made the ultimate sacrifice.'
