Towson, Md.--The
George Mason women's tennis team wrapped up the 2011 Fall Tiger Classic Sunday
with a win over Mary Washington and defeats to St. Joseph's and George Washington.
"We had some very good individual performances this
weekend," said head coach Stephen Curtis. "As a team we still have things to work
on in preparation for the upcoming Navy Invitational".
In the win against Mary Washington, Mason won all its
singles matches and the lone doubles match.
Senior Brooke Blackwell continues her strong start, winning her match in
straight sets 6-1, 6-2 to move to 3-0 in singles play on the season. Freshman Liza Davis also notched her third
singles victory of the season, winning by a score of 6-2, 6-2.
The Patriots had a hard time stopping George Washington in a
5-0 defeat, but pushed St. Joseph's to the brink in a 3-2 loss with Blackwell
and Davis teaming up to get a 6-4, 6-1 doubles victory. Freshman Tori Zalewski recorded her second
singles win on the year, winning by a score of 6-3, 6-2.
After the weekend, Mason's overall record stands at
3-2. The team will prepare this week for
the Navy Fall Invitational in Annapolis, Md.,
this upcoming weekend.
