FAIRFAX, Va.
- George Mason senior midfielder Chelsea Gamble saw action in the Division I
North-South All-Star game over the weekend, helping lead the South squad to an
8-7 victory over the North. The annual games, hosted by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, were held at the United Sports
Training Center
in Downingtown, Pa.
The squads entered intermission knotted at 4-4 and remained
in a standstill at 5-all in the second half before Gamble won the draw that led
to the South's final lead of the contest. Gamble finished with two draw
controls, three shots and four ground balls.
"It was a great experience to play with top players and to
be back on the field again," said Gamble. "I enjoyed playing with many of my
opponents throughout my career. The weekend was very well organized and fun for
everyone. It was a great honor to be able to play again and to play in front of
many college coaches, some of whom have watched me play before or have coached
me in the past."
Gamble was joined in the game by Colonial Athletic
Association conference opponents Diana Apel, Mary Kate Lomady and Caitlin
Sullivan of James Madison on the South roster, and Jessica Dunn and Megan
Fitzgerald of Towson and Katie Hertsch of Hofstra on the North roster.
In all four years of her career at George Mason, Gamble has
been a leader in Green and Gold. She was recognized by the CAA for her
performance on the field being named twice to the Second Team All-CAA and to
the CAA All-Rookie Team following her inaugural campaign. She anchored the
team's defense her senior season leading the squad in draw controls (41) and
was second in ground balls (25); Gamble ranked 59th in the nation in
draw controls. Against American, Gamble had the game-winning goal to send the
Patriots past the Eagles in triple overtime. For the past two seasons, she has
served as a team captain.
The IWLCA
honored 110 senior student-athletes in the three all-star games held over the
weekend.
