The George Mason men's 4X100 and 4X400 relay teams each
finished among the top 12 on Saturday evening and as a result, earned a trip to
the NCAA Championships in two weeks. The teams were competing at the NCAA East
Preliminary Round at Indiana University and they join Lavell Handy, David
Verburg and Mandissa Marshall in competing at Drake University for national
championships.
The 4X400 relay team which was honorable mention
All-American last year and was Indoor All-American the past two seasons
finished sixth to qualify for the NCAA Championships. The team of Nick Vaughn,
Ja-Vell Bullard, David Verburg and George Empty ran a time of 3:06.06,
finishing second in their heat and coming within .06 of one of the 10 fastest
times in school history.
The 4X100 relay team of Adrian Vaughn, Rachaunn Ruffin,
Ja-Vell Bullard and Nick Vaughn finished 11th in a time of 40.21
seconds. The quartet tied the ninth-fastest time in school history, a time set
earlier this season at the Florida Relays. The top 12 times advanced to the
NCAA Championships.
Mason had one other competitor running on Saturday, Adrian
Vaughn. The freshman committed a false start in the 200-meter semifinals.
