Handy, Verburg Claim CAA Weekly Honors

George Mason men's track and field athletes Lavell Handy and David Verburg each won IC4A titles this past weekend and on Tuesday, they were honored by the Colonial Athletic Association as Verburg was named the CAA Co-Track Athlete of the Week while Handy was named the CAA Co-Field Athlete of the Week.

Verburg posted one of the top 10 times in school history in winning the 400 meters as he took the IC4A title with a time of 46.09. He was a half second ahead of second place and a full second ahead of third place as he posted one of the top 30 times in the nation this year in the event.

Handy captured the triple jump title with a leap of 16.25 meters, the fifth-best jump in school history. His mark is the eighth-best jump in the nation this year and was half a meter better than second place. The Patriots finished second at the IC4A meet.

The Patriots will be in action next weekend when they compete at the NCAA East Regional in Bloomington, Ind.
