Kaila Conlon, a freshman softball player, and Brig Tison, a
junior baseball player both had terrific performances in the month of April and
for their on-field accomplishments, they were named the George Mason Female and
Male Student-Athletes of the Month, respectively.
Conlon, a native of Vienna, Va., led the softball team in
batting average and earned a Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week
award for the week of April 25-May 1. In April (including the May 1 game which
was part of her CAA Rookie of the Week award performance), she hit .308 with a
homer, two doubles, a triple, 8 runs scored and nine RBI. On April 23, she hit
a walk-off grand slam to beat Drexel as the Patriots trailed 3-0 in the bottom
of the seventh. It was her first career home run. On May, she had the
game-winning 13th-inning hit that gave Mason the win over Georgia
State, just the second CAA loss of the year for the Panthers.
Tison, also a native of Vienna, Va., put together a
school-record 27-game hitting streak this year and that included a base hit in
all 20 games in April. Tison, who currently leads the nation in hits with 89,
hit .419 in the month with seven doubles, one triple, 21 runs and 15 RBI. In 15
of those 20 games, he had multiple hits. Tison enters the final three games of
the season needing eight hits to tie the school record for hits in a season.
This was the first Mason Student-Athlete of the Month award
for both Conlon and Tison.
