Fairfax, Va.--The George Mason Patriots men's tennis team climbed above .500 with a 6-1 win against Morgan State today at the RAC tennis courts on campus. Mason improves to 9-8 with three conference matches remaining before CAA Championships April 21-24.

Morgan State's only point came at No. 1 singles as the Bears Eric Ward defeated Jorge Osuna. The Patriots Kevin McMillan, Chris Borden and Jordan Borsanyi each won their matches at No. 2, No. 4 and No 5 singles in straight sets. After losing the first set at No. 3, Mason's Taylor Sargent rallied back to defeat Dmitry Chekhlaty 4-6, 6-1, 4-6. At No. 6 singles freshman Steven Hyre lost the second set in a tie-breaker, but went on to win the third, 6-4.

The Bears and the Patriots split the first two doubles matches, but Mason won the No. 3 singles in a hard fought battle as Hyre and Michael Phaup defeated Morgan State team of King and James Lee.

The Patriots will play at CAA opponents Drexel and Delaware this weekend.
