Handy, Mavugara Earn CAA Weekly T&F Honors

George Mason juniors Lavell Handy and Grace Mavugara each had excellent performances this past weekend at the Florida Relays and they were recognized for their performances by the Colonial Athletic Association as Handy was named the CAA Male Field Athlete of the Week while Mavugara was chosen as the CAA Co-Female Field Athlete of the Week.

Handy, a native of Hampton, Va., leaped 15.50 meters in the triple jump giving him the eighth-best jump in the East and the 13th -best jump in the nation this season. Handy was CAA Track Athlete of the Week just two weeks ago for his performance in the 110-meter hurdles when he posted the 34th -best time in the nation.

Mavugara also competed in the triple jump at the Florida Relays. She jumped 12.50 meters giving her the 17th -best jump in the nation and the 9th -best in the East. The native of Belvedere Harare, Zimbabwe, qualified for the ECAC Championships with her jump which was within six inches of a personal best.

The Patriots will be in action this weekend when they host the Mason Spring Invitational.
