PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -
The
George Mason lacrosse team closed out the 2011 regular season Sunday afternoon dropping
a 9-3 Colonial Athletic Association decision to Drexel at Vidas Field. Madalyn
Jamison
and Caitlin Formato
both scored for Mason.
Jamison scored two goals for the Patriots as Formato rounded
out the Mason scoring with one goal.
Chelsea Gamble
assisted on Jamison's second goal. Mary
Schwartz caused a team-high two turnovers along with
Julianne Tela
, while
Gamble won a team-leading three draw controls.
Emily Ellisen
took four shots in
the contest and was credited with four ground balls.
Drexel secured the win with five different players scoring
to provide its offense. Leading Drexel was Charlotte Wood with four points on
two goals and two assists. Katie Blazer added three goals, four ground balls,
two draw controls and four caused turnovers.
Drexel outshot Mason 24-to-18 and won the draw control
battle, 10-to-4, en route to the victory. The Dragons opened scoring taking a
5-0 lead in the first 21 minutes of play. Jamison put Mason on the board
converting a free position attempt at the 5:13 mark to close the opening half
scoring and sending the teams into break with Drexel leading 5-1.
After the break, Jamison scored her second goal of the
contest off a pass from Gamble just over five minutes into the final period,
cutting the score to 5-2. The Dragons pushed their lead back to four goals on a
Wood tally at 22:16 before Formato scored unassisted at 19:33 for a 6-3 score. Drexel
finished the game with a 3-0 run for the final 9-3 score.
Mason finished the year with a 3-14 overall record and 0-7
conference mark. Drexel improved to 9-6 overall and 3-3 in league play.
