On April 14th
,
the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee teamed with the Rho Tau Chapter of Phi
Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated to host 'Sno-Cones 4 School Supplies' at
the Johnson Center on the Fairfax Campus of George Mason University. The event
was held to benefit students in need at Annandale
Terrace Elementary
School in Annandale,
Virginia where, during the
2009-2010 academic year, 75.6 percent of its students qualified for free and
reduced lunch rates.
SAAC and Phi
Beta Sigma Brothers sold Sno-Cones and popcorn in the Johnson Center
to students, faculty and campus visitors. Patrons were invited to purchase a
snack or donate school supplies to the cause. Mason had student-athlete representatives
from several sports including track & field, men's & women's volleyball,
men's swimming, men's soccer and dance, while other teams, including lacrosse,
donated school supplies. The event was a success as money was raised and school
supplies were donated for Annandale Terrace.
