The George Mason men's 4X400-meter relay team posted one of
the top 10 times in the nation on Saturday at the Florida Relays while at the
Colonial Relays, a pair of runners qualified for the IC4A Championships as the
track and field teams competed in both Gainesville, Fla. and Williamsburg, Va.
Also on Saturday, a pair of triple jumpers qualified for the IC4A and ECAC
Championships.
In Florida, the 4X400-meter relay team posted a time of
3:06.47, the top collegiate finisher in the event. They finished third behind
G.W. Express/Nike and Team Bahamas. The men's and women's 4X100-meter relay
teams each qualified for the IC4A and ECAC Championships as the men finished
eighth in 40.21 seconds, the ninth-fastest time in school history, and the women finished 21st
in 46.28
seconds. The men's 4X200-meter relay ran the third fastest time in school history finishing in 1:23.19.
In the women's triple jump, Grace Mavugara
finished fifth
with a jump of 12.50 meters, qualifying for the ECAC Championships. Lavell
Handy was sixth in the men's triple jump with a leap of 15.50 to qualify for
the IC4A Championships.
At the Colonial Relays, Phillip Blankenship and Andrew Pitts
each qualified for the IC4A Championships as they finished fifth and seventh,
respectively, with times of 30:51.61 and 30:53.37. The lone first place finish
at the Colonial Relays came from Lee Oxenford
who tied for first in the men's
pole vault with a height of 4.65 meters. In the women's pole vault, Mandissa
Marshall was second, clearing 3.85 meters.
